Trough of Blowland Half Marathon Trail/Fell Dec 2018

So yesterday was my last race of the year totalling 12 races for the year all trail and hills. This was most probably my most toughest and challenging as there was just 2 check points with no marshals on the course.

Unprepared me turned up with a water proof, shorts, t shirt and half a snickers. Said it would be right, little to my knowledge I didn’t read the email about mandatory kit!! Lesson learned but I had my running family around me to sort me out.

Just a half marathon I said!! Health and safety is number one in these events, don’t know what I was thinking with my half a snickers.

In the hall of Dunsop Bridge they where supplying the runners with free hot drinks as it was a bit nippy outside. When we set off we had rain, wind, hail and the ground was uneven, icy and ran across an icy marsh! We all ran together and loved every minute.

At the end of the race, my mum and dad was standing at the finish line to cheer us in. A big surprise as I never knew they was coming. Between them they haven’t missed a race all year wherever I have been running. Made my day.

A massive well done Chris, Michelle, John and Gabby, for a fantastic year running for Run Smart, staying steady and clocking up a lot of mileage over the years purely based on trails. I will be joining these in the future for preparation for my ultra.

A fantastic day and a fantastic course. Thanks to the organisers, the organisers mum and dad for supplying all the hot drinks, hot dogs and beans on toast to all runners and spectators all through the day, the marshals and everyone else involved especially the supporters on such a wet and windy day.

The first howler event in the Trough, defo be entering it again next year. It was a pleasure.
